Preface: I’m super psyched on the Substack platform, and I’m sharing some of my favorite essays I’ve written over the last few years, with some annotation, to make it simple to access the music and other references I mention in the pieces.
A stimulating subject, thanks ! I think in a more general sense that 'living in the past' is the potential error of our ways, - living on past experiences rather than current ones, or of focusing too much on 'the way things were' whether it be the standards, ethics, equipment or levels of achievment. Which is not to say that such should go without criticism, rather that we should be able to talk empathetically on such topics.
The problem finally for those living in the past is that they will become a bore to the younger generation, climbing and socialising becomes problematic with the loss of commonality. As a late father I am constantly reminded of these issues - at 63 I have an 18yr old son who is, frankly, growing up in a different world; it's a struggle on both sides !
Thank you, Love this
cheers thanks, glad you dig!
